  • Arrival – Siem Reap, Cambodia

    Siem Reap is the gateway to the world’s most spectacular ancient temples dating from 8th-13th centuries with their countless sculptured decorations. The small province lies between great lake and Kulen-holy mountain, it also homed the magnificence of several former Khmer capitals. Beyond, there is plenty to do in and around for much more fun activity when you are out of the temples.

    Upon arrival at Siem Reap airport by flight, you will be welcomed by local English-speaking guide who will escort you directly to hotel for relaxing.

    Afternoon, you take a short walk through sandstone causeway for a visit Angkor Wat built in 1113-1150 during the reign of King Suryavarman II. The structure occupies and enormous site of nearly 2 km2, said to be the one of the world’s largest religious monuments. It appears to have been both as the state temple and mausoleum, dedicating to the God Vishnu then has become an important place of pilgrimage for Buddhists. The temple is famous for bas-reliefs encircling the temple wall depicting scene from Hindu mythology and the historical wars of the King. The central tower reaches a height of 65 meters, is crowned with five towers in a quincunx also known as Bakan where you may also climb up and enjoy breathtaking view. Angkor Wat is symbolizing as the soul of Khmer people and graces on every Cambodia's flag.

    Welcome dinner will be served at Marum restaurant, it has indoor and outdoor seating. The building is a traditional Khmer wooden house with a beautiful garden in which to enjoy your meal. Your meal help builds a new life for the students in training while enjoying a memorable dining experience! 100% of the profits are reinvested into the education of students in training and Kaliyan Mith social programs. (Note: Marum opens daily, the restaurant will be closed for two weeks of each public holiday-Khmer New Year and Bchum Ben festival. Alternative local restaurant subjects to replace.)

    A short transfer from the busy town and now you enjoy cycling through beautiful countryside. Now, you are ready to set out on your cycling for soft adventure 8.5km easy ride to explore the rural charms of the countryside. A rich tapestry woven with lush seasonal scenery, colorful bustling villages, hidden ruin temples, ancient reservoirs and dusty back roads hedged with sugar palms and rice fields await you.

    Upon arrival at the local market, take a stroll around on-the-ground of a beautiful little market selling lots of farmer produce mostly freshness fruits, veggies and much more charming than the displays of industrial products. Walking through, you will see people are busy with bargaining taking place around stalls with authentic aesthetic, even involuntary. You can taste some new-made cookies with delicacy also seasonal fruits. This is an enthusiasm flavor while you are able to be in touch with the locals.

    Get inside a pagoda where you can learn more about the life of a Monk and Theravada Buddhism. Buddhism in Cambodia is a way of life that most people incorporate into their daily life. You will get to meet the Monks, experience a sacred water blessing for good luck and prosperity - a very special experience, have a red band tied around your wrist to keep you safe in your travels and see the temple’s fascinating pagoda art.

    Drive passing along the local village where you can see how the rural life. Upon arrive at the lake inlet then get on a private wooden boat from Kampong Phluk’s pier for visit the floating village on Tonle Sap lake.

    The lake is one of world’s most varied and productive ecosystems and was designated as a protected area under UNESCO's Biosphere Reserve in 1997. It is the largest freshwater lake in South East Asia, connects to the Mekong river which is confluence in Phnom Penh capital. Tonlé Sap Lake plays as of central importance role for Cambodia's food provision. The lake is a unique ecological water wonders in the world due to when the monsoon starts filling up by water of the Mekong’s precipitation culminate in Sep-early Oct that makes the lake swelling floodplain around 10,000 km² and then the water flows reversal of the Tonle Sap river into lower Mekong river.

    On board a cruise slowly through the canal of Kampong Phluk, you will be thrilled at the scenic beauty of a unique and authentic Cambodian village on the lake. On the way, you will see administrative offices, schools, houses on stilts rise up 7 meters lining the way, pagoda. A short stop and ride on a rowboat through an impressive flooded forest where you can enjoy paddling beneath shady trees makes you feel breathtaking with its romantic atmosphere. Then the boat drives downstream onto the great lake of Tonle Sap where it offers you a close look at the submerged forest, and a breathtaking view of the seemingly endless water surface. Your excursion to the village is certainly a unique experience and exposes you to the hardships and tribulations facing the locals on a daily basis. It is a window into the realities of Cambodian life that helps you get just a little bit closer to understanding the complexities of life on the lake.

    Disembark at a local stile house for a picnic lunch that will be ready to serve and you will also view the reality doing of the people go about their daily life on the lake.

    Note: Kampong Phluk may fully flood between Sep-Nov otherwise all boats cannot access it but by car/minivan instead. However, your visit during dry season offers you a fascinating way to wander along the rough road of the village where you can be closer to meet friendly local people and see how the stilted houses are exposed from the lake. And if you intend on taking a boat, an alternative floating village at Chong Kneas can be arranged instead.

    Mid-afternoon, you will attend 1:30 hour circus workshop at Phare Ponleu Selpak. It is a NGO improving the lives of children, young adults, and their families with art schools, educational programs, and social support so far. Here you will have opportunity to taking part in a circus-skills workshop, and chat to the performers giving you a rare chance try-out the techniques and glimpse behind the magic of one of the greatest, most enduring entertainments on earth. A wonderful experience and funny moment!

    Late afternoon, you will have dinner where you can emerge into the open-air seating of Phare Café-a unique ambiance is created that can only be experienced during your Khmer Classic Fish Amok course inclusive starter and desert.

    Then you are ready to get inside the campus, you will enjoy the rotation of a spectacular show putting on by a talented and energetic troupe of young performers. The performance is filled with awe inspiring acrobatics and musical accompaniment. It will reveal your heart goes into creating such a wonderful experience with fun and also enabling you to know about Khmer culture!

    Have you been dying to learn how to do pottery? You will have a chance to spend about 1:45 hour with the class at Khmer Ceramics Center which founded in 2006 to revive the skill and knowledge of ceramic making in Cambodia; provides vocational training for young disadvantaged Cambodians. The instructor will show you how to throw a pot and pulling your clay out of the bag to removing your pot from the wheel. Then you will add Khmer carving with our teacher to make it more unique for bringing home souvenir!

    The time for an epic local food adventure in Siem Reap evening starts off with a ride on a motor-remork (Cambodia tuk tuk). We will zip you through the streets, off the tourist trail and straight into local street heaven. Your food-loving local guide will uncover hidden local street food treasures and beloved recommendations of local snacks, or Khmer rice cake that you will be able to taste with different more foods. Our food mission also continues with a tasting of seasonal fruits that are grown around. Hopefully, you still have room for even more amazing Cambodian food, because our next stop is a local restaurant to sample some tasty local delicacies dinner, before finishing at a dessert stall where fruit shakes.

    After dinner, you will have the option to return to your hotel or end our Siem Reap food tour at Pub Street – a convenient spot¬ that’s perfect for exploring local bar and café life. Alternatively, our local guide will be happy to provide some less touristy recommendations for a great night out.

    This morning, you take a shady walk through a walkway flanked by lofty trees to explore the beautiful temple of Ta Prohm. It is overgrown by the massive roots of huge trees and vines making the temple unique and famous. It was a Buddhist temple, built in 1186, dedicated to the king’s mother. The temple was also where Angelina Jolie's movie Lara Croft the Tomb Raider was filmed because of its peaceful place and nature is taking it back. You will fall in love with its amazing natural surroundings—a photographer's paradise!

    Continue to the countryside for visit Banteay Srei temple, so-called "Citadel of the Women". It was built in 967, and the temple’s most intricate and deep carvings and architectural details in the unique pink-hued sandstone temple well preserve the best of Khmer art.

    On the way return, stop at the perfect spot to take a break just in front of a charming ancient lake and enjoy with lunch featuring authentic Khmer cuisine based on traditional recipes with several vegetarian options and most of our fresh produce is home grown in our vegetable garden. The beautiful atmosphere provides an ever-changing vista with a breeze of fresh air of the countryside.

    Along the way, you stop for a visit to the Banteay Srei Butterfly Centre (BBC) consists of a netted tropical garden with thousands of free-flying butterflies, all of which are native species to Cambodia. Here, you will see butterflies feeding and flying very close at hand and witness the complete life cycle of many of them. The revenue from tourist admission provides support for local poverty alleviation and conservation projects.

    Your last visiting at Bayon Temple that sits at the heart of the capital. The temple is incredibly intricate in terms of both its construction and meaning. Its masterpiece of 54 standing towers with four huge smiling faces represented the Khmer provinces during the great Khmer empire period. Along the outer gallery of the temple figures about 11000 bas-reliefs depicting heroic historical tales as well as scenes of Khmer daily life in that civilization.

    Exiting the capital through South Gate is the ancient gateway that grabs you with an impressive sandstone carving of four gigantic smiling faces. Each side of the entrance is flanked by 54 gods and demons holding the sacred Naga snake. Stop to view the jungle in the compound, which is encircled by a 100-meter-wide moat.
